Oh airports. I’m stuck at Stansted after missing my flight to Rome by FIVE minutes. Actually, I didn’t even miss my flight. I just missed the counter closing by FIVE minutes. These cheap airlines are just crappers in terms of service. The plane is STILL on the GROUND, I can SEE it from the window and you won’t let me on?!?! Ridiculous!!!
Anyway, thank goodness I brought my laptop with me. With the WAN card. Travel in true geekdome. I had myself a delightful airport breakfast of muffin and juice (the staple) and managed to find an electrical outlet to charge my laptop with. I’ve been working working working all afernoon (because there is ALWAYS work to be done)— and essentially am no longer taking this day as a holiday (which works out great). This is the 2nd flight I’ve missed in the last two weeks. The first was with mother last weekend where I (stupidly) brought us to the wrong airport on our way to Prague! That was a VERY expensive mistake. I figure I’ll be more diligent next time. =)
I’m sitting on blue leather airport benches and about half the people around me are sleeping. It brings me great comfort to think that they too have missed their flights and that I’m not the only absentminded, a-little-too-carefree traveler here. To be fair, I didn’t get home from work until 11pm last night. At which point I realized I had left my passport in the photocopier next to the pretty plant on the 5th floor. So decked in my hoodie and glasses, I hopped on a bus at midnight to traverse the underworld of early morning London. Nothing good ever happens on buses past midnight. On the way there, there was a very loud drunk old man calling everyone on his contact list to let them know that he got a new phone. I could not understand a word he was saying but was extremely fascinated by drunken slurring in an English accent. Somehow it still seems more refined than the American version! =) I managed to get home by 1am, made some phone calls, did more work and finally fell asleep at around 4am. So yes, I had an excuse for missing this flight to Rome!
