a girl in the world

finding beauty, pleasure and grace on the road less traveled

We haven't been able to find wifi for about 4 days now so I am behind in sending out pictures and emails from my Android phone.  They will all post but in the wrong order!  =)

We spent a few days in Livorno (which is a pretty crap city) as a base for the beaches on the west coast.  It was such a welcome relief to have some sea time after all of this heat (which hasn't yet subsided by the way).  We visited white sand beaches just north of Vada.  It was nice to have some down time but we're ready to get back into the swing of old, beautiful Italy.

And Siena is just the place.  We arrived a few hours ago and are staying in a beautiful old hotel in the centre, just two blocks from Il Campo.  This place is GORGEOUS!  I wish we could have been here during this year's Palio.  It's a goal for next year =).  Thus far, the food has been amazing and the gelato even better.  A gelato diet will do me in but I don't care.  It is so worth it!

Anyway, that is the quick update.  Wandering Italy has been so so nice and really easy.  We have taken trains everywhere and thus far haven't run into any problems.

Will update more soon!  My backlog of posts will start showing themselves once we find some wifi.

Baci!

– gelato, gelato, gelato
– beautiful, ancient drinking fountains everywhere
– prosciutto and melon
– baked figs with gorgonzola and ham
– the leather bags (I want them all!)
– Italian shoes and clothes and designs
– the language, oh the language!
– bike rides through ancient walled cities
– cheap trains to everywhere
– sundried tomatoes and fresh mozarella
– staying in old 1930's style flats with green shutters
– pear fagattoni pasta south of the Arno in Firenze
– bidets! I finally understand why they're so great!
– fresh fruit markets
– the cheese, the cheese!
– wandering old streets on warm, balmy summer nights

What an amazing blessing to be able to wander the country for a month!  Gawd, how thankful am I!?!  A dream come true.
