a girl in the world

finding beauty, pleasure and grace on the road less traveled

It has been a long while since I've blogged.  Mostly, it's because I've been too busy living my life!!

I decided a few weeks ago that I will only get out of London what I put into it.  And my have I been putting into out and my has it been putting out!!  =)  I have managed to go out every single night for the past two weeks and it has been the happiest two weeks I've had here in London so far.  Whether it's dinners in Maida Vale, dinners with workmates, dance lessons, walks across the park and going out to discover a new bar or social space, I've said yes to it all!  And in the process have met so many new friends and have discovered the wonderfulness that is this incredible cosmopolitan city.  THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO!

Dj has been here for two weeks and we've had a great time finding new places to eat.  We went to Hampstead a weekend ago – one of the most beautiful little villagey places I've seen so far in London.  We walked the river bank, saw London Bridge and found random eats.  In addition to salsa dance classes, I've just opened myself up to all the possibilities that this time away can bring.

Last night I went with a friend to a place called Shunt in London Bridge.  It is the most beautiful social space I've ever seen!  It's what we call "crazy shit" in the sense that it's odd, breathtaking and so experiential that I can't even imagine really topping it.  We had wine and sat on couches and were surrounded by airplane sounds and candles and beautiful art and lighting.  Just breathtaking!

And then tonight, I'm off to Mexican dinner with friends and then salsa dancing with a new Cuban friend!  SO much to do!

I am exhausted by end of week but so so so happy!

London, I <3 you!

It has been a long few weeks of traveling.  First in Italy, then Vancouver, then home home home in Cali.  It was such a great visit – I can hardly believe it.  I wasn't irritable or annoyed at everything.  Somehow, over the last few months, I learned to take everything in stride.  In stride!  Little Miss Control Freak taking everything in stride!  That's pretty impressive I think.  =)  Being home was great – spent lots of time with Bear and Cyn and friends and parents.  Saw the Chihuly exhibit at the de Young Museum in SF.  Went for dinner and brunch and lunch with the Cyn.  Got new contacts, a hair cut, colouring and acupuncture.  Shopped a little, talked a lot. Went for walks at night and ate frozen yogurt. Drove drove drove through the California hills.  And it was hot hot hot.  Overall, it was a great few weeks home/away.  I don't even know where home is these days.

Being in London now is a little strange.  I'm slightly homesick but falling in love with this city again.  It's a pretty amazing place.  =)

Adapt adapt.  That's what I do.
