a girl in the world

finding beauty, pleasure and grace on the road less traveled

We are on the train back to Florence after a day of hiking in Cinque Terre! What a great day trip! So fun to hike along the ocean and explore these super cute towns on the coast. Venezza was my favourite. Its the 2nd most northerly of the five. Hiking into it was stunning. It really felt like the town was clinging to the side of the hill. So beautiful!

It was such a different side of Italy – remote, quiet and natural. Just gorgeous.

I am sooooo tired! Maybe we’ll go to our new local haunt for dinner….they have pear stuffed fagatonni in a cream sauce. This pasta is to die for!! To die for!! Mmmmm 🙂

I’m back in London tomorrow — tanned and sore from walking around Italy all weekend. 🙂

Today has been our best day trip so far. The Deej and I Eurostarred to Venice. The weather today couldn't have been more perfect – sunny, warm, blues skies and no breeze. Amazing for wandering. This year in Europe has made me into a real power walker. I think Deej had a hard time keeping up – though I do have to make note that he is healing a pulled ankle ligamant (oh breakdancers!).

Venice is a sight to see but I don't think wed come back for more. Its different from any other place in the world! Colourful and whimsical, it feels like an adult Disneyland. But after seeing the Grand Canal, San Marco and getting lost among the labyrinth of streets, there isn't much else to do here. I'm glad we decided against an overnight stay :). The most dramatic part was walking out of the train station and right into the Grand Canal! It was breathtaking. So easy!

Deej is passed out in the seat beside me and we're just crossing the lagoon back to the mainland. Bye Venice! Thanks for the pictures and the great day of wandering.

Tonight I fell in love.  With London.  Again.

The weather here has been incredible.  In the twenties, even at 9pm at night.  I decided to walk home from work at around 8pm.  Dusk, warm, quiet through Hyde Park.  I haven't felt peace like that in a very long time.  There were girlfriends on blankets having dinner in the dim light.  I could hear their laughter across the field.  Joggers and bikers and couples walking after dinner.  It was beautiful.  I could not contain my bliss.  This city is beautiful.  Bustling, cosmopolitan, green, multicultural and so delicious this time of year.

Gah.  Amazing.
