We hopped on an overnight bus to Mendoza on Sunday night. We’re taking a few days to get away from the madness and rain of Bs.As. What a change! Mendoza es muy tranquilo – the complete polar opposite of the capital. The sidewalks are clean and wide, huge trees line the streets and there is a dry warm breeze that envelopes everything. It reminds me so much of our time in Italy – hot, lazy and completely relaxed.
We’re being hosted by some local friends. My time in Argentina has been so special because I really have lived like a local for the last month. So wonderful. Last night we drove around the city and into the countryside. And today, we went on a half day bodega (vineyard) tour. We’re not big wine people. Actually, I think the whole appeal around vineyards and wine tasting is all a bit silly and quite boring, but a half day of alcohol consumption hasn’t hurt. We’ve had fun snacking and sampling along the way.
Tonight, mojitos and ice cream and picadas and another warm dry summer evening strolling the outdoor cafes of this lovely town. =)
