The real paradise

I’ve been MIA for a few days.  It has been busy and we haven’t had much access to Internet.  And gladly so!  Being disconnected during such short holidays should be mandatory.  =)

Bangkok was insane – polluted, full of traffic and really hard to get around.  But we dined well at the State Tower in Sirrocco and then again in Vertigo – atop the city’s tallest buildings overlooking the lights.  Lychee martinis and monsoon jungle rains are what I remember most from our two days in that chaotic city.  [Mmmmm warm jungle rains.  I don’t think there has been anything more sensual than the afternoon downpours here.]

We spent two nights in Chiang Mai.  I loved it.  SO SO SO cheap – an amazing meal for two for 100 baht (about 2 pounds)!  We dined like kings – fresh mangoes, fried rice, sticky rice, Pad Thai, fried bananas.   We rode into the jungle for a day to ride elephants and go white water rafting.  Elephants aren’t as stinky as I feared.  And being tossed off a raft in level 3 rapids doesn’t kill you.  Our raft guide’s mission for the day was to ensure that we all fell out of the boat at some point.  So dodgy.  Only in Asia =)

We’re in Koh Samui now – and I don’t want to leave.  Ever.  We rented a jeep and stayed in beach bungalows for two nights – rustic, so so cheap (about 15 pounds a night) and really romantic in the pouring night rain.  There were snails and frogs on our porch step.  And the beach was literally two steps away.  We partied in Chaweng on our first night – very sleazy, very commercial and very hot.  It’s everything that you would love and hate from a tourist town in Asia.  For our last three nights, we are spoiling ourselves at Zazen Spa and Resort in Bo Phut beach.  This place is amazing.  The beach is the calmest water I’ve ever seen (like a mirror) and the hotel is to die for (one of the best rated boutique hotels in Thailand).

Balinese outdoor showers, pebble floored bathrooms, cold wet towels on the beach soaked in orchid perfume, open air massages along the pool and every type of exotic fruit you can think of for breakfast.  And the bed!  The bed!!!  It’s like hugging a cloud.  This is the real paradise.  We went for a canoe ride in the bay this morning and then swam in the sea during the afternoon jungle rain.  This has been my favourite thing about Thailand – swimming under the pouring rain in warm ocean water.  Wet on wet on wet skin.  It feels amazing.

These days, our hours are spent eating, sleeping, swimming and deciding on what we’re going to have for lunch.  It is pure indulgence.  The level of spoilage is so severe that I am already getting bored of being so sloth-like.  Utter nothingness is good for the soul, but I think I would go a little crazy if I did this long term.  =)

We’re off now – to figure out dinner, how to catch the sunset and how to wipe the sweat off my brow in this gorgeous, humid, sensual heat.

Oh, I forgot to mention the daily foot and body massages – for 3 pounds an hour.

Is it even legal to ingest such gross levels of complete and total pleasure?!  =)
